  • Wall and Floor Penetration

  • The main purpose of the edge of slab fire protection is to prevent fire spreading between linear gaps and the building substrate. The integrity requirements for cavity barriers of such form is different than the one for penetrations. In the event of fire such barriers should act as a closure. Often such barriers are concealed to the naked eye and are in hidden areas such as bulkhead spaces.

There are several material options on the market used to close edge of slab barriers and ensure full fire protection compliance up to 240 minutes integrity. This system does not usually require fixings for horizontal gaps.

  • Beam cladding protection is used to protect beams and columns from fire spread. With the use of board and casing systems (such as ceramic and stone wool, fire-resistant plasterboard and calcium silicate board) fire protection is ensured to steel, again by insulating it from fire. The correct associated fixings need to be used whilst installing these systems for different fire resistance periods.

Beam cladding is installed in a dry environment, as inclement weather conditions can adverse the fire protection effect.

  • Fire Stopping is one of the most crucial aspects in today’s building process.

If there are openings and joints located on a fire-rated/resistance wall/ floor – these penetrations need to be sealed with various components. Unprotected openings in fire separations cancel out the fire-resistance ratings of the fire separations, allowing the spread of fire, usually past the limits of the fire safety plan of a building.

This is what fire stopping is – a fire protection system used to restore and maintain the fire- resistance of a wall or floor assembly.

Passive Fire Protection should be compliant in accordance with building regulations and legislation.

    Firestopping Components Include:

    • Intumescent sealants – Integrity and Insulation up to 240 mins
    • Fire Batt - Integrity and Insulation up to 240 mins
    • Fire Compound - Integrity and Insulation up to 240 mins
    • Firestop pillows - Fire Batt - Integrity and Insulation up to 120 mins
    • Intumescent Closures - Integrity and Insulation up to 240 mins

  • Fire Barrier systems are designed to prevent the spread of fire and smoke in ceiling areas and unseen roof voids. Fire barrier systems are suitable for voids located up to 10.5 metres.

Up to 120 min fire protection, these systems also provide sound reduction through the additional support of wire mesh enforcements. With the support of angles and straps, the installation of fire barrier ensures the product specification is met and in line with passive fire protection regulations.
